Contracting Services
Trenchless technology, civil infrastructure, and specialist ground engineering delivered across South Africa — under budget, under ground, on time.
Pipe Jacking & Culvert Jacking
Pipe jacking is a trenchless installation method that advances pre-cast concrete pipe sections through the ground using hydraulic jacks — eliminating the need to open-cut roads, railways, or environmentally sensitive land. Delcon operates purpose-built jacking rigs capable of pushing pipes from 900mm up to 2800mm in diameter through a wide range of ground conditions.
Culvert jacking extends this capability to rectangular box culverts under active road or rail crossings, providing a structurally sound, permanent solution with zero disruption to surface traffic. All installations are executed under controlled conditions with continuous laser-guidance monitoring for accuracy.
Scope of Work
- Pipe jacking of RCP (reinforced concrete pipe) from 900mm to 2800mm diameter
- Culvert jacking under active road and rail crossings
- Laser-guided bore steering for precision alignment
- Drive pit and reception pit construction
- Intermediate jacking stations for long drives
- Annular grouting for pipe stabilisation
- Post-installation pressure testing (where applicable)
Typical Applications

Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a steerable trenchless installation technique that bores a curved or straight underground path between two surface entry points, then pulls back a product pipe or bundle of conduits. With no open excavation, HDD is the preferred method for crossing rivers, wetlands, roads, and urban environments where disturbance cannot be tolerated.
Delcon's HDD fleet covers a diameter range of 100mm to 900mm, installing HDPE pipe, steel carrier pipes, and multi-conduit bundles for water, gas, telecommunications, and electrical services.
Scope of Work
- Pilot bore drilling with electronic walkover or wireline guidance
- Staged reaming to design diameter
- Product pipe pullback (HDPE, steel, uPVC, conduit)
- Entry and exit pit construction
- Drilling fluid management and spoil disposal
- Post-pullback pressure or continuity testing
Typical Applications
HDPE Butt-Welding
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) butt-fusion welding produces a fully homogeneous, monolithic pipeline joint with pressure ratings matching or exceeding the parent pipe. Delcon's certified welding teams operate machine-controlled fusion equipment across the 90mm to 900mm diameter range, producing joints suitable for potable water, wastewater, irrigation, and gas distribution systems.
Every weld is logged with time, temperature, fusion pressure, and cooling time records in compliance with SANS 0268 and manufacturer specifications. All installations include hydrostatic pressure testing to confirm the pipeline integrity before commissioning.
Scope of Work
- Machine-controlled HDPE butt-fusion welding (90mm – 900mm)
- Weld log record keeping per SANS 0268
- Trench excavation, pipe bedding, and backfill
- Hydrostatic pressure testing per SANS 2001
- Pipe-end preparation, squaring, and facing
- Supply and install or weld-only contracts
Typical Applications

General Infrastructure
Beyond trenchless technology, Delcon delivers conventional civil infrastructure contracts including water reticulation networks, sanitation systems, and storm water management — with a strong track record in rural development and municipal service delivery projects.
Pipeline pressure testing, gravity sewer installation, and complete water supply schemes are executed by Delcon's own direct-employment workforce, ensuring quality control at every stage without subcontracting risk.
Scope of Work
- Water reticulation — bulk mains to distribution networks
- Gravity sewer installation and commissioning
- Storm water drainage, headwalls, and outfall structures
- Hydrostatic and leakage testing (SANS 2001)
- Pump station civils and pipework
- Rural development pipeline schemes (RDP, MIG-funded)
- Trench excavation, pipe bedding, and compaction testing
Grouting, Guniting & Lateral Support
Delcon provides specialist ground stabilisation and structural protection services including sinkhole void grouting, guniting (shotcrete/sprayed concrete), and lateral support solutions. These services are critical for protecting existing infrastructure and stabilising ground conditions ahead of or during major civil construction.
Grout mixes are designed to suit specific ground conditions — from low mobility grouts for void filling to cementitious grouts for structural stabilisation. Guniting (shotcrete) provides rapid surface protection for excavated faces, tunnel linings, and slope stabilisation applications.
Scope of Work
- Sinkhole investigation, void identification, and filling
- Compaction and permeation grouting for ground improvement
- Annular space grouting (post pipe jacking or HDD)
- Guniting (dry-mix shotcrete) for slope and excavation protection
- Lateral support: sheet piling, soldier piles, and anchoring
- Rock face sealing and slope stabilisation
- Tunnel invert and lining repairs
Typical Applications
Service Types
- Sinkhole grouting: Low mobility void filling
- Compaction grouting: Ground densification
- Annular grouting: Post-pipe-jack stabilisation
- Guniting: Dry-mix shotcrete application
- Lateral support: Soldier piles, sheet piling
- Anchoring: Soil and rock anchor systems
